What Are Credit Card Security Codes?
These codes are an important security feature for online transactions. There are two types of card security numbers:
- Card Verification Value (CVV) is a three-digit code printed on the back of Visa credit cards.
- Card Validation Code (CVC) is a three-digit code printed on the back of MasterCard credit cards.
This feature helps validate that a genuine card is being used during a transaction.
How Do They Work?
The code is printed only on the cards — it is not contained in the magnetic stripe information, nor does it appear on sales receipts. When you enter your code, it is validated during the order process. The code protects you by ensuring that you have the card in your possession and that your card account is legitimate.
